Enabling variable refresh rate (VRR) significantly improves the performance of Sucker Punch’s latest PlayStation 5 exclusive.
The new Ghost of Tsushima 1.100 update brings substantial performance enhancements to the PlayStation 5 Pro by enabling 120 Hz VRR across all the game’s display modes. A new comparison video embedded below demonstrates these performance improvements. It compares the game with and without VRR using all of Ghost of Tsushima‘s display modes: Ray Tracing Pro, Balanced Ray Tracing Pro, Ray Tracing, Performance, Balanced, and Quality.
The video clearly shows that the PlayStation 5 Pro has significant untapped performance due to frame rate limitations because the refresh rate is higher in all display modes with VRR and unrestricted frame rates. The new update also enables 120 Hz VRR on the standard PlayStation 5. However, no performance comparisons have been conducted yet, so it is unclear how much performance remains untapped due to the system’s limited frame rate.
In addition to supporting 120 Hz VRR and offering new Balanced graphics modes, the Ghost of Yotei 1.100 update introduces a variety of new features that enhance the gaming experience. These include automatic loot collection, the option to disable fall damage, new photo mode features, a New Game+ mode, replayable endgame content, balance adjustments, and more. Read more about the new content and changes in the official patch notes.
Similar to Ghost of Tsushima, one of the best games of 2020, it’s likely that the sequel will eventually be released on PC. Death Stranding 2: On the Beach has already been rated by the North American ESRB. The only question is whether 505 Games will publish it again or if Sony Interactive Entertainment will publish it on PC this time. Of course, we’ll have to wait and see, as the bigger first-party titles will continue to be released on consoles first, followed by a PC release.
