Beyond Good and Evil 2: Unbelievable, But Ubisoft Is Still Hiring to Work on It!

On the one hand, it’s ridiculous how long it’s been in development; on the other hand, it’s extremely embarrassing.

Development of Beyond Good and Evil 2 continues, but based on recent events, it seems that, after nearly 20 years, the game is still far from ready. Yesterday, Ubisoft posted a job ad looking for a technical sound designer to work specifically on Beyond Good and Evil 2 at Ubisoft Montpellier. Reporting to the sound director at the Montpellier studio, the successful candidate will provide technical solutions for integrating and implementing audio systems, ensuring that the audio created by the team aligns with the sound director’s vision. They will work on all aspects of the game’s audio, including sounds, music, voices, and all elements of the game’s animations, environments, weapons, and vehicles.

While it’s good to know that development on Beyond Good and Evil 2 is continuing, it’s concerning that Ubisoft is still recruiting staff for a project that has been in development since 2008, when it was first publicly announced. The project’s lengthy development timeline has been problematic, to say the least. The departure of key personnel from Ubisoft Montpellier has also had a significant impact on the project, which Ubisoft has classified as a AAAA game. For example, managing director Michel Ancel left Ubisoft in 2020 and retired from the gaming industry altogether; managing director Guillaume Carmona left the company in 2023; and creative director Émile Morel passed away suddenly in 2023. Despite all the uncertainty, the project was not canceled, and last year, a new creative director, Fawzi Mesmar, was appointed.

Although the release of Beyond Good and Evil 2 remains uncertain, the franchise received a new release last year: the Beyond Good and Evil 20th Anniversary Edition. Developed by Virtuos Games under the supervision of Ubisoft Montpellier, the new version of the game includes a number of improvements. It supports 4K resolution and a 60 FPS frame rate, as well as a new Speedrun mode.

Still, she likes puzzle and story-oriented games, like Sherlock Holmes: Crimes & Punishments, which is her favourite title. She also played The Sims 3, but after accidentally killing a whole sim family, swore not to play it again. (For our office address, email and phone number check out our IMPRESSUM)
