The developers of The Blood of Dawnwalker, an open-world action RPG, want to achieve a level of freedom similar to that found in paper-based RPGs and the first two Fallout games.
Rebel Wolves, an independent Polish developer, is working hard on its first game, The Blood of Dawnwalker, an open-world action RPG published by Bandai Namco. The studio was founded in 2022 by former CD Projekt RED developers (with partial investment from NetEase). At first glance, the game resembles The Witcher III: Wild Hunt, but it is designed to give players more freedom. In a recent interview with Eurogamer at the Golden Joystick Awards, the game’s director, Konrad Tomaskiewicz, said that the game is designed to give players more freedom. Is The Blood of Dawnwalker‘s concept similar to Warhorse’s two Kingdom Come: Deliverance games? Tomaskiewicz answered this question as well, saying that the approach is more similar to the first two Fallout games.
“There’s no main quest. You build your experience from the quests you encounter. You know where your enemy is. You can attack this place anytime you want. It’s up to you whether you want to do it alone or build yourself up, find powerful items, develop your character, or do some quests and find allies to help you. We want to bring video games closer to pen-and-paper RPGs and give you the freedom to experience what you want.
Kingdom Come: Deliverance is not a bad example. Still, they have a main story that develops. You have an open world and a main quest that leads you. In our game, it’s different. In this area, our game is more similar to the first two Fallout games, where you have a clear goal and everything is optional — you decide. You travel the world and decide what to do,” said Tomaskiewicz.
Previously, the developers noted that The Blood of Dawnwalker, coming to PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, and PC in 2026, will have serious consequences for both action and inaction, emphasizing its strong role-playing elements.
