Metal Gear: No Decision Within Konami on What Else Could Be Remade!

The franchise recently received a new installment with the PS2 remake of Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater, but what could come next?

Metal Gear Solid franchise producer Noriaki Okamura stated that Konami has not yet decided whether to create more remakes after the release of Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater. In an interview with the Japanese magazine Real Sound, Okamura was asked which titles could be expected alongside the recently released Metal Gear Solid Master Collection Volume 2. He stated that Konami is still deciding on the next steps for the Metal Gear IP and that future titles may be additional remakes or something else entirely. Okamura was also asked about the possibility of a Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots remake. This classic PlayStation 3 title has yet to be released on a new console, which is often attributed to the complexity of the original console’s hardware.

“Right now, we’re still thinking about what to make next. Since Metal Gear has given us a chance to reach a new audience, I’d like to keep building on that momentum. That said, the actual content is still undecided. It could be another remake, or we might take on something entirely new. The Metal Gear series is practically a history of video games in itself, ranging from pixel art to film-like presentation, so the best way to remake or reinterpret each title differs greatly. We have no intention of applying the same methodology we used for Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater to every game. We want to determine the most suitable approach for each one. Since many of the original staff had left and the team had been restructured, we had to recruit new people to finish Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater made. As a team, we’re confident that we’ve preserved the appeal of past titles while achieving a quality level that modern players will enjoy. Currently, we’re exploring concrete plans for the future. The PlayStation 3 hardware required unusual designs to achieve 3D performance with the available technology, so the code for Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots ended up being quite unconventional. Bringing it over today seems like it would be a real challenge,” said Okamura.

So maybe they really don’t know what’s coming next.
