The fan-made Oblivion remake ported to the Skyrim engine will not be released in 2025 either. However, if we’ve been patient thus far, we can certainly wait a little longer.
The Skyblivion team originally set 2025 as the release date in January 2023. The modders have largely stuck to the schedule so far, but Rebelzize, the project leader, has confirmed that the release date will be missed because there is simply too much left to do. Many elements are already complete or nearly so. The world map was problematic, but it is now 100% complete, including all unique regions, empires, and the Oblivion Deadlands. You can view it on an interactive, satellite-style map on the project’s website. All quest dungeons have been finished with new layouts, unique bosses, and unique quest rewards. Only a few random dungeons remain unfinished. Most interior spaces, such as houses, shops, castles, stables, chapels, and inns, are ready. Many of the Imperial City’s interior spaces will not be available until the city’s 3D toolkit is finished, but all locations are expected to be ready by the end of the year.
The Skyblivion team has identified the Imperial City as the largest remaining content challenge. Quest implementation is progressing relatively smoothly, but the remaining work in the city is hindering progress somewhat. The goal is to finish the quests by the first quarter of 2026, allowing time for testing and iteration before release. Once the Imperial City, navmesh, and quests are finished and polished, and core systems such as alchemy, spells, perks, and crafting are completed by the end of 2025, the modders believe the project will be ready for its planned 2026 release. All of the other major cities (Anvil, Bravil, Bruma, Cheydinhal, Chorrol, Leyawiin, Skingrad, and the ruined city of Kvatch) have already been implemented.
The user interface (UI) is still under development. The team has transitioned to a Skyrim-like design, prioritizing functionality and consistency over aesthetics. However, a unique redesign may be implemented later. The basic UI work is expected to be finished by the end of March. The Skyblivion team is developing a large final battle scene between Akatosh and Mehrunes Dagon. Professional animators are creating the scene, but a lack of manpower in rendering, set design, visual effects, and destruction simulation is hampering production. Rebelzize is looking for volunteer professionals in these areas to help ensure the scene meets the desired quality standards.
Not all features will be included in v1.0. For instance, underwater combat was removed due to serious incompatibility with animation mods but may be reintroduced later. Rebelzize calls this a living project that will continue to be refined with bug fixes and expanded with the original Oblivion DLC (Shivering Isles and Knights of the Nine) as well as additional features, such as spell crafting, dynamic dungeons, tomb raiding, more creature types, followers, weapons, and armor.
