Bethesda Reassures Fans Again: The Elder Scrolls VI Is “Progressing Well,” Still No Release Window

Bethesda Game Studios has once again addressed the community, insisting that development on The Elder Scrolls VI is going well. As before, however, the studio stopped short of mentioning any release timeframe.

Bethesda Game Studios has a long-standing reputation for announcing major projects far earlier than their eventual release. Both Starfield and The Elder Scrolls VI were unveiled back in 2018, and while one of those games has since launched, the other remains shrouded in mystery.

In a recent interview, three senior Bethesda figures – studio director Angela Browder, director and executive producer Todd Howard, and studio design director Emil Pagliarulo – spoke about the current state of The Elder Scrolls VI. None of them referenced a launch window, instead echoing Howard’s familiar message that development is moving along very well.

Pagliarulo offered the most candid insight, addressing the pressure felt by players waiting for updates. “I can say that it’s happening. The time pressure players feel isn’t the same pressure we put on ourselves. I know that can be frustrating, but games take a long time, and delays are common,” he explained.

He pointed to the recent delay of Grand Theft Auto VI as an example of smart decision-making. “Games of this scale don’t just take time to build, they take time to polish. Do fans want something rushed that doesn’t meet expectations, or something that’s been given enough time to be great?”

Todd Howard kept his comments brief, stating that most of the studio is currently focused on The Elder Scrolls VI, while also noting Bethesda’s experience with parallel development and extensive pre-production. Angela Browder added that advances in hardware and technology since development began have opened up a vast range of possibilities, making the project especially exciting from a creative standpoint.

For now, Bethesda remains committed to taking its time. According to the studio’s leadership, allowing development to proceed at its own pace is the only way to ensure that The Elder Scrolls VI ultimately lives up to expectations.
