PUBG: Blindspot: A Top-Down Free-to-Play Shooter Takes the Franchise in a New Direction

PUBG Studios is expanding the PUBG universe with a bold spin-off that reimagines the formula as a fast-paced, top-down PvP shooter.

PUBG: Blindspot is a five-versus-five, team-based, top-down PvP shooter that delivers a realistic and intense experience inspired by PUBG: Battlegrounds. Players can wield a wide range of weapons, including assault rifles, submachine guns, shotguns, long-range firearms such as sniper rifles and DMRs, pistols, grenade launchers, and more, each with its own distinct feel and handling. The focus is on skill-driven, high-stakes firefights, presented through a top-down perspective that brings a fresh identity to the PUBG franchise.

The core mode is built around familiar bomb mission rules seen in many competitive shooters, adapted to a top-down viewpoint. The attacking team must breach a building and hack a hidden Crypt by installing a decrypter, using tools like grenade launchers and explosive hammers to smash through walls and defensive positions or ambush the enemy. On the other side, defenders work to prevent the hack by barricading doors and setting up obstacles. Once the decrypter is activated, the Crypt changes color from blue to red, signaling that it has been compromised. The Crypt controls the Blue Chip, raising the stakes if it falls into enemy hands.

In modern warfare, close-quarters battle revolves around disrupting the enemy’s vision, securing your own line of sight quickly, and striking before being detected. PUBG: Blindspot reinforces this concept through a shared, real-time vision system among teammates, enabling instant, nonverbal coordination. Each character comes with preferred weapons and signature gadgets, while familiar firearms like the Mk14, AWM, and P90 return alongside unique tools such as Blue Zone grenades, recon drones, proximity explosives, and the classic flashbang and smoke grenades.

According to Krafton and PUBG Studios, PUBG: Blindspot will launch in Early Access on February 5. This initial version will provide the core gameplay experience, with ongoing updates planned to refine mechanics, balance classes and weapons, and introduce additional features and content. The length of the Early Access period will depend on development progress and player feedback.
