An ambitious restoration mod is bringing back even more cut content from the RPG that’s now nearly 11 years old.
With almost half a million words in its script and around 950 speaking roles, The Witcher 3 is hardly lacking in dialogue – but CD Projekt RED originally recorded far more than what made it into the final game. Buried in the files are hundreds of cut audio lines, ranging from short one-liners to full dialogue branches and even entire scenes. Over the past few years, the massive The Witcher 3 mod Brothers in Arms has restored hundreds of these removed pieces (alongside other fixes and additions like missing NPCs, reinstated books, and restored journal entries). Since launching in 2021, the mod has continued to receive regular updates, and its latest release brings back even more dialogue and scenes that were previously left on the cutting-room floor. The newly restored material is showcased in the video below.
The biggest highlight is a newly reinstated romantic moment between Geralt and Yennefer during The Last Wish quest. The restored content builds on a dialogue choice where Geralt decides whether or not to tell Yennefer “I love you”. In the original game, choosing not to say it leads to a brief but warm exchange between the two. In the modded version, however, refusing to say “I love you” triggers a longer and far more romantic scene – complete with Geralt and Yen sharing a kiss before going their separate ways. And that’s not the only enhancement for The Last Wish: another choice at the end of the quest has been expanded with an additional scene where Geralt and Yennefer stand together, hand in hand.
Beyond that, the update also restores more cut dialogue and interactions, including a scene where Ciri addresses warriors of the Wild Hunt, an extra conversation with Eskel after Geralt returns to Kaer Morhen, and an expanded set of dialogue options during the Bloody Baron quest. Players speaking with the Baron can express more clearly whether they intend to kill or cure the Botchling – though the game still doesn’t lock them into either approach, which may explain why the option was removed in the first place. For most of the cut material, it’s easy to understand why CDPR trimmed it and why modders wanted it back. In some cases, however, the reasoning is obvious: the Noonwraith’s absurd laughter, for example, completely undercuts the tension of the moment.
If you’re looking to add even more dialogue and story flavor to The Witcher 3, you can find the Brothers in Arms mod over on Nexus Mods.
