The release date of Bungie’s next game was previously unknown, but we now have confirmation from a fairly reliable source.
Bungie has confirmed only that Marathon will be released in March but has not announced the exact date. According to information leaked from the Xbox Store, the release date may be March 5. An Xbox user later recorded the pre-order trailer. Although it is still visible, Sony will likely file a DMCA claim to have it removed. In any case, a Deluxe Edition will be available, including the Midnight Decay pack with two weapon skins, among other features. Bungie will undoubtedly reveal more details when pre-orders begin.
Marathon returns almost exactly thirty years after the previous installment in the series, Marathon Infinity. However, this new game is very different from the previous ones. It is modeled after increasingly popular PvPvE survival extraction games and can only be played in first-person view. In each round, players must infiltrate the abandoned colony of Tau Ceti IV. This world’s inhabitants have mysteriously disappeared, leaving it contested by rival Runner teams and corporate security forces. Runners are bio-cybernetic mercenaries who use synthetic bodies capable of surviving in extreme conditions. They search for weapons, upgrades, and valuable resources during repeated runs.
Similar to other extraction games, rewards can be given by NPCs (PvE) and other human players (PvP), making each round unpredictable. Additionally, Bungie has incorporated dynamic events and environmental hazards to keep players on their toes. Successful escapes increase our character’s seasonal power. We can earn cosmetic items for our achievements and build a stronger character with the loot we steal. In Marathon, players can customize their Runner’s playstyle with weapons, implants, and equipment.
The latest official Deep Dive introduced the game’s Runner Shells – or, if you will, classes: Destroyer, Assassin, Recon, Vandal, Thief, and Triage. There is also a seventh shell, the Rook, which can only be used in solo runs. It comes with free standard equipment, allowing new players to enjoy the game without worrying about losing their own items.
The base game will be available for €/$40. The Deluxe Edition will certainly cost more, but the exact price will be announced in the full pre-order announcement. The game will be available for the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, and PC, and will have full cross-play support.
