Three More Far Cry Games Are Getting a 60 FPS Update! [VIDEO]

Ubisoft is updating several of its open-world games to run at a better frame rate on modern platforms.

Three classic Far Cry games will be updated this week to run at 60 frames per second (FPS) on modern platforms. The official Far Cry Twitter account posted a cryptic message consisting of three emoji-written sentences. A follower replied to the tweet asking if this meant that Far Cry 3, Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon, and Far Cry Primal would receive a 60 FPS update. The account responded with a GIF saying yes. Another follower asked when the updates would arrive. The answer was January 21.

Since then, the account has officially confirmed this and posted a video showing Far Cry 3 running at 60 FPS on current-generation consoles. In April, Far Cry 4 received a similar update, allowing it to run at 60 FPS on PlayStation 5 more than 10 years after its release. The game had already had this frame rate on Xbox Series X thanks to Microsoft‘s FPS Boost feature, which was applied to certain titles, including Ubisoft‘s games.

Ubisoft has big plans for the future of Far Cry, as evidenced by the launch of Vantage Studios. This new Tencent-backed subsidiary will oversee Ubisoft‘s three biggest IPs: Assassin’s Creed, Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six, and Far Cry. In November, it was announced that FX is developing a TV series based on Far Cry. It is planned as an anthology series, with each season set in a different location and featuring different characters. The series will be available on Hulu in the United States and on Disney+ worldwide. It is being produced by Rob McElhenney‘s company, More Better Productions, and Noah Hawley‘s production company, 26 Keys.

Rob McElhenney, who recently legally changed his name to Rob Mac to make it easier for people to pronounce in South America, will also appear in the series.
