Working Upscalers in Beast of Reincarnation, But There’s Still Room for Improvement!
Support for Nvidia DLSS 4.6 and AMD FSR 4 has been added to the game, but some issues still need to be resolved.
Beast of Reincarnation was released last week for the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S and PC, but it was not in the best possible condition at launch: due to numerous technical issues, many players were unable to enjoy this action RPG. Game Freak and Fictions acknowledged the issues immediately and promised to fix them as quickly as possible. The first results of their efforts are now available in the form of an update, though it’s somewhat disappointing in terms of the promised story improvements. The 1.0.7 patch does a pretty good job of addressing the game’s technical issues: it adjusts the camera, increases the text size, changes the default cutscene settings, allows you to remap the interaction button, and much more.
Various adjustments have been made to the player’s camera during and outside combat, with further changes planned for the future. The text size has been adjusted throughout the game and additional text size options are also planned. The default cinematic scene setting has changed from ‘Cinematic’ to ‘Performance’ mode. This means that cinematic scenes will no longer play at 24 FPS by default, although this option remains available. If you have already set this option to Cinematic mode, switching to Performance mode will make this change permanent. Players can now adjust the interaction button mapping in the settings.
The new update introduces balance changes, including an adjustment to the way Emma parries when she takes damage. This was one of the most frustrating issues when the game was first released. Various balance adjustments have also been made to bosses and enemy encounters on Normal difficulty. The new update also introduces PC-specific improvements, such as support for Nvidia DLSS 4.5 and AMD FSR 4. These upscaling features essentially didn’t work at the game’s launch, so they are a very welcome addition. However, the 1.0.7 patch is somewhat disappointing in terms of the promised story improvements. According to the patch notes, the pacing of the story has been adjusted slightly to ensure that relationship-building conversations, which could previously occur multiple times in a row, now occur only once per day.
While this change is welcome, it does not fully address the complaints that many players have raised since the game’s release. However, Game Freak and Fictions have promised to release further updates to improve these scenes further. This could be a “skip” button for all cutscenes, since very few can currently be skipped in the game.
Hopefully, the promised future updates will enhance the gaming experience of The Beast of Reincarnation and make it more accessible to players. While it isn’t the most innovative game, fans of the genre should consider buying it if they can overlook a few shortcomings.
