Mafia III pulled a surprise move, as it was shown to the public for twelve minutes, thanks to IGN First. This is the first time to see the game in action for an extended period. Until now, only journalists at Gamescom could see this much of the game, and even, that was a behind-closed-doors affair!
The game is in an alpha state, so it’s far away from calling it finished. Therefore, there are some issues – for us, the traffic pop-in was very noticeable. If you can ignore that, you can focus on the protagonist’s (?) story. Lincoln Clay is a fresh Vietnam War veteran – having returned from duty, he’s trying to settle in his good old hometown New Orleans in Louisana in 1968. His home won’t be the same again – after his family bath in their blood, he wants to have his revenge.
The game has some style; that’s for sure – it seems to recreate the sixties’ American lifestyle. The shooting is okay, although it feels like Uncharted for some reason. Also, the HUD looks very familiar to a certain Grand Theft Auto V’s…
