id Software has been on the scene for a quarter of a decade – geez, it’s been a long time. The first person shooter genre has improved dramatically, thanks to their contributions as well. The id Tech engine is now in its sixth iteration, and its first usage will be in DOOM. The developers might proceed even without the talent of John Carmack. (Let’s hope the game won’t be choppy – the id Tech 5-using RAGE had some problems over 4 years ago…)
There will be a lot to brag about, though: it’s been over ten years since the release of Doom 3 (which knocked our PCs dead back then due to high system requirements), and since then, we have seen the cancellation of Doom 4, restarting the development. The game kept its style, the classic gameplay, the weapons and of course, the monsters. Honestly, would it be a Doom game without killing Cyberdemons?
While we don’t know the exact release date of DOOM yet, Bethesda plans to launch id Software‘s title in 2016 on PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC. Viva la Doomguy!
