Red Barrels isn’t able to release the game this year, according to their Facebook post.
To quote parts of the post, „We had to make a difficult decision recently. After weighing our options, we’ve decided to postpone Outlast 2’s release until Q1 of 2017. […] Our mission as an indie studio is to deliver to you the best, most terrifying, most fulfilling experiences possible. That’s why we’re taking just a little bit more time to make sure our vision for Outlast 2 is in no way compromised and is the experience you deserve. […] Thank you for understanding. We promise Outlast 2 will scare the crap out of you.”
Most of the Facebook commenters accept the devs’ decision because they want to play a horror game in its full „glory” rather than see an unfinished, lack-of-polish title out this year.
Outlast 2, which has no VR-support at the moment, will be out in Q1 2017 on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC. While it will be a sequel, the location, and the characters will be both new.
