Sony might be dropping the PlayStation 4‘s price lower than before.
Analyst Michael Pachter has had multiple predictions come true in the gaming industry, and now he told GamingBolt that Sony will have to cut the PlayStation 4‘s price due to the increasing competition from the Nintendo Switch and Microsoft’s upcoming Project Scorpio to fulfill their expectations of selling „only” 18 million consoles between April 2017 and March 2018. Pachter says that if the console is priced correctly, it will sell as good as Sony hopes.
However, if the PlayStation 4 will get a price drop, would it affect the PlayStation 4 Pro as well? The answer is likely going to be a yes: if the basic PS4 ends up costing 250 dollars/euros with the PS4 Pro set to 350, then the Project Scorpio, which is going to be stronger and potentially more expensive than Sony’s console, will have some challenge by the Japanese product.
Pachter doesn’t think that the PlayStation 4 will sell more in its lifetime than the PS2, though, due to the Xbox and Switch gaining market share. You can get a PS4 for 300 bucks since September 2016 with a 1 TB HDD, and it’s sometimes dropped to 250, too.
An E3 announcement is likely.
