The fans ask Microsoft a lot of times regarding Fable.
Fable III launched in 2010, so it’s been roughly eight years since we could visit the world of Albion, created by Peter Molyneux. Since then, we saw Fable Legends getting unceremoniously canned by Microsoft… who still seems to believe in the IP.
During E3 2016, Phil Spencer said that Fable has a future. A few days ago, an Xbox Live API SDK was leaked, and on Resetera, Klobrille wrote the following: „I would love to revisit Albion. Project name could be Wisdom. A UK Studio should do it.” Intentionally as a wishlist, he mentioned other titles, such as Perfect Dark, Crackdown 3 co-op campaign, Forza Horizon 4, Age of Empires 4 in an early state, Halo, and MechAssault.
Taking a turn back towards Fable, Don Williamson, who formerly was the lead engine programmer for Lionhead (the devs of Fable), he wrote in a deleted tweet that he knows who develops Fable 4, but in his next tweet, he added that it’s an interesting choice, but he doesn’t have any internal information. Who is developing Fable 4?
It’s likely Forza Horizon’s developers, Playground Games. Previously, we wrote about them how they were expanding, looking for people to work on an open-world AAA RPG. However, their job offer for the senior game designer post as changed from an „entirely new” label to an „exciting, large-scale” one. Fable is an open-world RPG. Hm.
That’s a bold move by Microsoft if these signs do point to Playground making a new Fable. We might hear about it at E3 in June…
