We first heard during Microsoft‘s E3 conference that they had acquired several studios to join Microsoft Studios. One of them is Ninja Theory.
The team took a risk last summer with Hellblade: Senua‘s Sacrifice, which was meant to be the middle road between indie titles and AAA games by providing a high-quality experience for roughly half of the AAA pricing. The question is, why did they decide to get acquired by Microsoft then?
In the video below, they explained that Microsoft still offers them the creative freedom that they had before while being independent. The acquisition also provides them with a bit of stability, and they now also can access technological resources that would have been near impossible for them if they were on their own.
However, by joining Microsoft, it means that Ninja Theory‘s upcoming games, which will now be developed faster than before, might not be available on PlayStation platforms. This change is the downside of the acquisition…
