Cross-play is a thing that is getting into more and more game nowadays, so EA is starting to get more interested in it as well.
Although FIFA 19 won’t have cross-play, the devs at EA Sports already experimented with it. Matt Prior – creative director at the studio – said the following:
“It’s something we’ve looked at, and it’s something we often talk about…
There are a lot of issues to work through. I’m trying to be diplomatic here! There are a lot of issues to work through with various first parties. But Fortnite does that now with PC to consoles.
From a consumer standpoint, it makes the community that much broader, which makes it that much more compelling.
I’m not making any promises. But you’ve seen that (cross-play) happen for the first time very recently. If you’d asked me that a few years ago I’d probably have said, ‘it’s not going to happen. We’ll monitor and see. I think it would be a net benefit to the users.”
Cross-play support would be really good for those who spent a lot of money on FIFA Ultimate Team because they could move their accounts with the stuff they bought in-game freely between platforms.
FIFA 19 is going to release this year on September 29th on PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Switch.
