Daisuke Sato answered several questions, including the potential creation of Binary Domain 2.
Gameblog, a French website, interviewed Sato, who first talked about the possibility of making Yakuza 0-2: currently, this project isn’t in development, and if it were, it’d feature the young Kiryu/Majima duo again.
Could there be Yakuza-styled City Hunter spinoffs? Sato says that technically they could work as the story is set in Shinjuku, but the two universes have to somehow tie together. With the Fist of the North Star spin-off (which will launch shortly in the West, too!), that world was post-apocalyptic, but the characters were similar, and thus, they could create that game with no problem.
Yakuza but not on PlayStation? Sato admitted that the Japan-exclusive 1&2 HD was a failure on the Wii U, and they’d develop for multiple platforms to reach more potential customers, but the Nintendo Switch wouldn’t be fitting for Yakuza, and people wouldn’t expect that either. The Xbox One, however, is something that they consider.
Binary Domain 2? „As far as I’m concerned, I would love to make a sequel. It is purely a question of practicality and administration. It’s up to Sega to decide whether or not they want to do it,” Sato said. Could Shun Akiyama make a return? „Hmm… why not?” And last but not least, a spoilering question regarding Yakuza 6: The Song of Life – close the window now if you haven’t played the game yet…
Is this game the end for Kazuma Kiryu’s story? „He is not dead, and that does not mean he will disappear completely, we may see him again one day.” SEGA is thinking about a few things, it seems, and it doesn’t sound too bad at the moment.
