The iconic beat’em up series of the SEGA Genesis/Mega Drive is getting revived!
It might be one of the most surprising announcements of August (the other one would be Hardcore, another Genesis/Mega Drive game, getting found and brought back to life to be published) – publisher DotEmu, and developers Guard Crush Games and LizardEmu (Wonder Boy: Dungeon’s Trap) announced Streets of Rage 4.
In case you don’t know Streets of Rage (which was called Bare Knuckles in Japan), it was a beat’em up series with serious electronic music as the soundtrack, and it had a huge variety in characters, including one, quite homosexual person who wasn’t a playable character outside Japan. (That’s not a joke!)
The franchise is coming back, and let’s see what the press release says: „Featuring hand-drawn visuals from the team behind 2017’s gorgeous Wonder Boy: The Dragon’s Trap remake, Streets of Rage 4 builds upon the classic trilogy’s gameplay with new mechanics, a fresh story and a gauntlet of dangerous stages with a serious crime problem. […] Whether players gang up with a friend or clean up the city solo, Streets of Rage 4 is a skull-bashing, chicken-chomping delight all set to a thumping soundtrack sure to get your blood pumping.”
Streets of Rage 4 has no release date and target platforms announced yet.
