Valve‘s head is glad to see that the Halo franchise – which mostly avoided the PC in recent years – is slowly surfacing on this platform as well.
On Reddit, an image was posted about how a fan emailed Gabe Newell, the boss of Valve. (You can also write an email to him: gaben at valvesoftware dot com.) The fan wrote: „Hello Gabe, how did the process of working with 343 [Industries] and Microsoft to get Halo on Steam? Was this a simple task?” Gaben (we got used to calling him as such…) honoured the question by providing a short-but-decent answer, which is still better than ignoring the email altogether: „The credit for this goes to Phil Spencer and his team at Microsoft. They made it [the appearance of the Halo: Master Chief Collection on Steam, not just on the Windows Store on Windows 10 – the editor] happen, so, yes, it was simple for us.”
We have some new information about Halo: Master Chief Collection‘s PC port, too. First off, it will not support cross-play with the Xbox One players (but 343 Industries has said they aren’t ruling it out in the future), plus the Microsoft Xbox Play Anywhere program will also not support this game. It means that if you already own the collection on Xbox One, you will not get a PC code to access it on Windows 10. (It makes sense, there are a few years of difference between the two versions!)
So, Halo: Master Chief Collection will have a slow start on PC (as Halo: Reach, the new addition, will show up here first), but at least we can be happy that Master Chief will finally get something new outside Halo Wars after twelve/thirteen years. (Halo 2 came out on PC in 2007…)
