Crystal Dynamics and Eidos Montreal will not change how the characters look in the Marvel’s Avengers game.
Thor, Captain America, Black Widow, Tony Stark, and Bruce Banner will be the main characters of Marvel’s Avengers. They will not look like their MCU film equivalents – they will look entirely different from those designs.
„We are always listening to, and welcome feedback from our community. There are currently no plans to change our character designs. The level of detail and overall polish of the character models will absolutely continue to improve as we get closer to launch,” Shaun Escayg, Crystal Dynamics‘ lead creative director says, who also told Hollywood Reporter that they never considered lifting over the character designs as they always wanted to have their unique approach.
„There will be custom outfits that you can purchase in microtransactions,” Escayg told IGN. Vincent Napoli, the lead combat designer added that there will be nothing that affects the gameplay amongst the microtransactions. The post-release content, such as new characters and locations, will be free, however. Square Enix wants to keep the community together with this move, and they will also not utilise random loot boxes and pay-to-win mechanics either. (They simply do not want to do the same mistake that Electronic Arts did twice in 2017 with Need For Speed: Payback and Star Wars: Battlefront II.)
Marvel’s Avengers will launch on May 15 on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Google Stadia, and PC. There will also be a pre-release beta that the PS4 users can first try. There’s also an off-screen twelve-minute gameplay video as well, but Square Enix has already removed it from YouTube. Perhaps the publisher will upload the direct feed (and thus, good quality) with this move. If not, you can download the clip from here or here.
