Although Blizzard still hasn’t officially announced Diablo 4, it’s in development, and multiple signs point to it, including several employees seeing it in action.
Le Monde, a French publication, writes about how several higher ranked Blizzard executives have seen Diablo 4. Sure, their article mainly talks about Blizzard Versailles’ layoffs, there’s also a brief, yet quite a strong hint at Diablo 4. Thankfully, on the Icy Veins forums, which is close to Blizzard, we found a proper translation of the important part of the article: „What about the future? The Blizzard Entertainment teams have already had the right to [watch] a presentation of the highly anticipated Diablo 4 and know that a new Overwatch is in the pipes. But none will come out before 2020, at best, and the employees of Versailles do not know if they will still be around when they eventually arrive,” the translation reads.
With Diablo 4, Blizzard simply has to restore its name, as they really screwed themselves over last year at BlizzCon with Diablo: Immortal, available for iOS and Android… as Diablo is mainly a PC franchise. (And the game wasn’t welcome with open arms whatsoever.) They already said before that another Diablo project is in the works, which will „embrace the darkness” (quoting Blizzard itself), picking up a gloomier, gorier visual style than Diablo III, which is available on PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, as well as PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.
So next Diablo could launch in 2020 at the earliest, but it’s likely going to be available in 2021, nine years after the initial PC release of Diablo III. Blizzard’s game thus could be in development for the next-gen Xbox (Project Scarlett) and PlayStation (PlayStation 5?), as well as the PC.
