Death Stranding, which got nominated in eight categories in this year’s The Game Awards, has the creator of the event, Geoff Keighley in it.
On Kotaku, Geoff Keighley has responded to the problem that we discussed a few days ago. He says that he „respect[s] and appreciate[s] the concern,” while also explaining the situation around him and Hideo Kojima‘s game. Kojima is a member of The Game Awards’ advisory board, which can be seen on the event’s website. He expressed that he is not involved in creating the lists of nominees and that he wants to stay away from this process. „This is why we have the FAQ right at the top of the website to make the process clear. In my role as [the] show producer, I work closely with game publishers and developers on several levels, so [I] leave the judging to media outlets that provide a wide critical assessment,” Keighley says.
About Kojima’s advisory board membership, he said that it largely meets to discuss „broad stroke discussions” of The Game Awards as production and to „guide and advance” its mission. He added that the advisory board has no direct involvement in either the voting process or the selection of the voting jury, meaning Kojima can’t influence things in his favour.
At least Keighley responded to the concerns instead of staying silent about it. If he does try to stay away from things to work on the show behind the scenes, that’s a good thing. (However, we don’t know how much truth lies behind the comments – Kojima’s recently launched game on the PlayStation 4, with a PC port coming in about half a year, does have Keighley as a cameo, though, and that is a fact.)
The Game Awards will start on December 12, at 5:30 PM Pacific or 8:30 PM Eastern Time.
