Nowadays, many publishers focus on the next console generation, including Capcom.
The Japanese company is in a good position: Monster Hunter: World is flying, Resident Evil 2 Remake sells well, Devil May Cry 5 also has decent sales, and Resident Evil 3 Remake (with Resident Evil Resistance on top of it) will arrive shortly as well. There are other projects as well – rumours say Resident Evil 8 is a long way off, a new RE game is happening soon, we’d also predict a new Street Fighter, and we might ALSO get a new Capcom Vs. title, although Brian Hanford, the voice of V in Devil May Cry 5 has since tweeted that he doesn’t know anything about it and that he’s just a fan of the series. We have heard that Capcom is planning remasters with the RE Engine (and since Devil May Cry 5 also uses it, it makes sense), and they might do something with Dino Crisis (which has been badly ignored recently…) or Dragon’s Dogma.
But let’s look further than that – in Europe, Capcom has registered Pragmata, which is currently under examination, meaning it’s not officially registered yet. Recently, Capcom has also done the same for Shinsekai: Into the Depths and Resident Evil Resistance, but we have known about these games for a while. Pragmata could likely be a PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X game (or, in a worse scenario, a random mobile title…), and if they register it this early, it could even be a launch title for both next-gen consoles at the end of the year.
As Capcom hasn’t released many major games this fiscal year that started on April 1, 2019 (aside from Monster Hunter: World’s Iceborne expansion, which hit the PlayStation 4 and the Xbox One in September, followed by the PC in January), we can notice their next-gen focus.
