Hardsuit Labs, the dev team behind the game, loses another narrative designer…
In August, the studio announced that Brian Mitsoda (the leader writer, who also was the writer and designer of the first Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines!) and Ka’ai Cluney (creative director) was fired from Hardsuit Labs with no explanation given. Mitsoda hinted at how his departure wasn’t peaceful, and that „there were no delays caused by the Bloodlines 2 narrative development.” Now, the publisher, Paradox Interactive, confirmed that Cara Ellison, the senior narrative designer of the new Bloodlines, has left the project altogether.
„We can confirm that Cara Ellison has decided to leave Hardsuit Labs and is no longer working on Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2. Cara brought fresh ideas to the project and many of her contributions will be present in the game launching next year. We thank her for her work on Bloodlines 2 and wish her the best in all of her future endeavours,” a Paradox spokesperson said. Ellison has moved to League of Geeks (who work on Armelo), keeping the senior narrative designer role.
The narrative might be done, but there’s an interesting quote in the Paradox spokesperson’s comment: „many of her contributions will be present in the game launching next year,” meaning the narrative might be changed, even though she was mostly responsible for it due to her role. Her departure was already noticed by fans before the announcement, as she removed all references to Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2 on Twitter. There might be problems: the game got delayed in August to 2021, and a week later, Mitsoda and Cluney got fired from Hardsuit Labs. What’s going on?
PCGamer didn’t learn how much Ellison’s departure will impact the development or when she left the project…
