As the PlayStation 5 is pretty much waiting on the corner of the street, Sony brought our attention to one of its launch titles.
Sony Interactive Entertainment, as well as SIE Japan Studio and Bluepoint Games (these two teams have previously worked together on the PlayStation 4-exclusive Shadow of the Colossus that launched in early 2018), provided a twelve-minute overview of the PlayStation 5-exclusive Demon’s Souls (which itself was a PlayStation 3-exclusive title) in a new State of Play.
It’s a deep dive into mostly the offline experience, narrated by Gavin Moore, the creative director of Sony Interactive Entertainment Worldwide Studios. The reason why there is nothing about online is that Sony wants us to experience the asynchronous and synchronous multiplayer features without them spoiling any details about it. It makes sense if you think about it.
„[…] In addition to beautiful shadow effects and ray tracing, players can choose between two graphics modes while playing: one focused on fidelity, and one focused on frame rate,” the PlayStation Blog said in June. So the PlayStation 4 Pro’s legacy continues: if you want to get a higher frame rate, you can give up some of the graphical details and vice versa: if you want beautiful visuals (4K) but lower FPS, you can do it. However, a few things have changed since then: the ray tracing has been removed from the game, but the resolution has also been increased from 1440p to 4K. Sony doesn’t want to follow the trend (ray tracing feels a bit like a fad at the moment). Instead, they want to give us more performance. Performance mode gives us a dynamic 4K resolution with a 60 FPS frame rate, while the Cinematic mode provides native 4K with 30 FPS.
Demon’s Souls’ remake is a launch title, meaning it will be available on PlayStation 5 either from November 12 or November 19, depending on your region.
