Start the stopwatch: how much time will pass until Nintendo pulls out the lawsuit card?
Mario Kart‘s PC version has nearly no chance of happening. (We mean an official PC port and not emulation!) A modder, InfernoPlus, who last year has created a Dark Souls x Halo mashup, wanted to fix this issue somewhat by bringing the kart racing to the world of Master Chief, featuring the levels of Mario Kart 64.
In Halo Kart, we can find five maps from the Nintendo 64 racer, with some minor tweaks so that the Spartans can race for victory. No, they won’t use the weapons known from the Mario universe (although it would look somewhat funny if we saw Master Chief pull out the blue Koopa shell…), but the weapons are known well from the world of Halo. At the start of each race, you spawn into a lobby, where you can jump on one of the twelve available mini Warthogs. After that, you will spawn to the starting line and the Spartan who completes the three (or even ten) laps the quickest wins.
Halo’s multiplayer physics are still present, so flipping your Warthog or seeing some explosions are still part of the experience. However, keep in mind that you need the original PC port of Halo: Combat Evolved to play it. Not Halo: The Master Chief Collection! Install Halo Custom Edition on top of it, check if you are updated to version 1.10, and then, follow further steps on InfernoPlus‘ Patreon.
Keep in mind that these are Nintendo’s circuits. Thus, it will be inevitable that they will do their classic cease-and-desist move, so get the mod quickly before it’s gone. Until then, you can see a nearly four-hour broadcast of the mod below, showing how zany it can be…
