Forget May 21: Arkane Lyon‘s next game is not going to be available from that day, and it’s not even the first time the game has been pushed back by several months…
So Bethesda Softworks (which is already belonging to Microsoft by now) and Arkane Lyon announced on Twitter that they need even more time to make the game the way they want it to be. Don’t forget that back when Deathloop was first delayed, Bethesda didn’t belong to Microsoft yet, and the initial plan was to release Deathloop close to the arrival of the next-gen consoles, namely the 2020 Holiday season. Instead, we now have to write down September 14 as the new, and possibly final release date for the game.
Here’s the statement: „We’ve decided to delay the launch of Deathloop to September 14, 2021. We’re committed to quality and preserving our team’s ambitions for Deathloop while ensuring the health and safety of everyone at Arkane. We’ll be using this extra time to accomplish our goal: create a fun, stylish, and mind-bending player experience.
We apologize for the extended wait and thank you all for your passion and excitement. It is the fuel that powers our creativity and our hard work. We can’t wait to show you more Deathloop soon! – Game Director Dinga Bakaba, Art Director Sebastien Mitton, and the Arkane Lyon team.”
So if they want to show the game again, they might be doing so during a State of Play broadcast, which could happen either during the summer months or close to E3 2021, which will be entirely online this year. The fact that they still delayed the game by about ten months is still there, though, and that can’t be changed.
Deathloop will launch on September 14 on PlayStation 5 and PC. The game might have been announced too early (the release date? definitely!).
