This year’s Call of Duty’s reveal isn’t being rushed by Activision Blizzard at all.
It wasn’t even out at E3, even though most of the significant 2021 releases already have release dates (or, in cases like Halo Infinite, release windows) confirmed to the public. One big game that isn’t playing by the book here is something that will allegedly be called Call of Duty WWII: Vanguard, or, in other words, 2021’s cash-cow for Activision Blizzard that will likely still not be mentioned in July either.
Tom Henderson, who we previously quoted due to how Battlefield 2042 will supposedly reuse maps from previous games in the series, said the following in his video about this year’s Call of Duty: „When it comes to multiplayer in [Call of Duty WWII:] Vanguard, everything I’ve heard throughout development, is that it just isn’t going to be that great. It’s not going to be unique in any kind of way, and instead, it’s essentially going to be a Black Ops Cold War 2.0.
Now, the reason for that is Sledgehammer Games have tried to do a lot of different things with Vanguard to set it apart from [Call of Duty: WWII], however, a lot of those features never made it to fruition, they were cut for whatever reason, and instead, this is pretty much a traditional Call of Duty title,” Henderson said.
Rumours claim that at launch, the game will have about eight multiplayer maps, but there will be returning features, such as Headquarters from Call of Duty: WWII and the Ground War game mode from Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, respectively. Sledgehammer Games is mostly doing everything in the game, but Treyarch is helping them with the plot and the easter eggs in the Zombies game mode.
Call of Duty WWII: Vanguard will likely be revealed in August via Call of Duty: Warzone, Henderson claims. The game is planned to launch around November, possibly as a cross-gen title (PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, PC [Battle.net], PlayStation 4, Xbox One). None of this is official yet, though.
