Techland sees zero chance of delaying Dying Light’s sequel to a later date once more.
Tymon Smektala, Dying Light 2: Stay Human’s lead game designer, gave an interview to MP1st, and he relaxed everyone who had doubts about Techland delaying the sequel to the zombie parkour game (which itself launched nearly seven years ago) one more time (even though we have heard a lot of titles getting pushed back recently; Capcom delayed Pragmata to 2023; we mentioned yesterday that Saints Row reboot got a half-year delay, and we will discuss later today in the news that Six Days in Fallujah also received a significant pushback in its launch window).
“The game is going to be released next year in February, and that’s what we’ve focused on; that’s what we’ve worked on. So absolutely zero chance of that [a delay] happening,” Smektala said. He admitted that the coronavirus global pandemic also played a role in the delay, not to mention how Techland had to adapt to the changes the pandemic brought along.
“I think the most important reason for us is that when you work on a non-linear game, and you want to polish that, you’re not polishing one game, but few games at the same time, because the same game can have so many variants, and some of those variants can be so drastically different that you have to verify every playthrough – not just 1,000 times, but 1,000 times multiplied by the number of variations in the game. I know that hearing about the delay is disappointing, but I think it’s better than getting a game which wasn’t meant to be released in the first place, that wasn’t ready to be released,” Smektala added. While he did not mention an example, it’s easy to remember a fellow Polish studio, namely CD Projekt RED and its Cyberpunk 2077…
Dying Light 2: Stay Human will launch on February 4 on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. The Nintendo Switch will receive a cloud version.
