VR is becoming more popular by the day, with two classic film franchise games announced in quick succession, which makes it seem worth dusting off the Oculus…
Yesterday, an exciting VR-focused event took place: this year’s Meta Quest Gaming Showcase, which many game developers grabbed with a focus on virtual reality experiences to showcase their latest work. Here are two titles that we’re looking forward to and that you might find interesting.
A ghostly hide-and-seek
You can’t get tired of Ghostbusters – at least according to the directors of the Meta Quest Gaming Show, who presented the franchise’s game as one of the big surprises of the show. But what can we expect from Ghostbusters VR? A cooperative action-video game that proposes to go hunting for ghosts that are causing trouble in the city of San Francisco.
While the action seems to be all about cooperative multiplayer, nDreams stresses that Ghostbusters VR can be enjoyed solo.
“Track, attack and trap ghosts in thrilling confrontations with iconic tools from the movies.”
“Go it alone or as a team of three friends in co-op, in an expansive and immersive campaign” story mode.
The video game, starring the Ghostbusters, has been unveiled in a short trailer that gives some hints about the gameplay, such as the use of various gadgets made famous by the film, but also shows the customizability of the main characters, as each of the Ghostbusters in the video has a completely different aesthetic – including the use of funny hats.
Interestingly, just a few weeks ago, another video game starring the Ghostbusters, Ghostbusters: Spirits Unleashed, was released, which also committed to multiplayer, although this time with two opposing sides: four players as the Ghostbusters and a fifth user as the ghosts.
The Saint, the Sinner and the Zombie
It’s one of the best virtual reality games and one of the most harrowing experiences we’ve had with the technology, so it was a pleasure to discover The Walking Dead: Saints and Sinners – Chapter 2: Retribution at the special Meta Quest Gaming Show event, which was held to unveil Oculus Quest’s other new virtual reality projects.
Described as a “new chapter” in the story of the horror adventure based on the comic book universe of The Walking Dead, Retribution takes the choices we made in the original game and challenges us with new challenges in an action, horror and survival adventure that will require us to make choices at crucial moments in the game as we flee the undead in a cold and unforgiving New Orleans.
The Walking Dead: Saints & Sinners Chapter 2 will once again put you in the shoes of “The Tourist”, surrounded by “endless hordes of walkers” and other survivors who won’t make things easy for you…
In fact, the trailer for the new VR video game gives us a glimpse of the tense moments so typical of Robert Kirkman’s comic books when zombies approach in droves without enough ammunition to kill them all.
Once again, we will have to resort to melee weapons, most notably a chainsaw, which promises to play a big part in the gameplay. A release date for The Walking Dead: Saints & Sinners Chapter 2 – Retribution has not yet been confirmed, but it is certain that it will be released in 2022 and will be available on both Quest and other VR platforms.
