Quietly, the same thing could happen to Skull & Bones, announced several years ago but also long unseen, as what happened to Gotham Knights recently.
The situation there was that Warner Bros. Montréal’s game got the ratings for the age rating… but missed out on the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One versions. Then, shortly afterwards, Warner confirmed that the game was only coming to PlayStation 5, Xbox Series and PC! And history tends to repeat itself, and following Warner’s example, Ubisoft may have taken a similar step.
It was reported on TwistedVoxel that Skull & Bones, which has been in development at Ubisoft’s Singapore Studio (which also had its sexual harassment issues) for years and has undergone at least one reboot, has been rated in Brazil for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, PC and Google Stadia (which is incomprehensible, as it’s only a matter of time before Google’s game streaming service bites the bullet, as the company is now offering the technology to third parties…) but not for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One! In Australia and South Korea, the rating was for PC or unspecified platforms.
Although E3 was cancelled this year, many publishers timed many announcements for its week, and Microsoft held its Xbox/Bethesda event. However, Ubisoft skipped the whole thing, so the French publisher will soon have to prepare for a Ubisoft Forward event, as Skull & Bones is supposed to be released this fiscal year. In other words, the game should be in the hands of gamers by the end of March 2023. Then, marketing should start soon!
So, barring another delay (we’ll never know because this game is as much of an unseen title as Beyond Good & Evil 2), Skull & Bones will be out by the end of March 2023 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, PC and Google Stadia, leaving the PlayStation 4/Xbox One pair behind.
