The developers, Coffee Stain North, have proposed a rather idiotic (but workable) solution for those who want to play the second Goat Simulator on PC with a controller (they left out the number 2).
Currently, Goat Simulator 3 is only available on PC via the Epic Games Store. A technological obstacle has hampered it because Goat Simulator on Steam supported controllers, but the sequel does not. By default, it’s the game’s fault, and the client you run it through can’t make up for its lacking option. In other words, the Epic Games Launcher does not have controller support, and the NeoGAF forum explains how the developers have proposed to overcome this shortcoming.
The solution to the problem can be found on the official Goat Simulator Discord. First, start Steam, log in (yes, you need a Steam account and the client), and add the Epic Games client as a non-Steam game to Valve’s program. Hook up your controller to your computer. In Steam’s controller settings, check that the program recognizes your controller. If it does, launch Epic Games Launcher from Steam and Goat Simulator 3. Does it sound stupid? Yes, it does. Could it be simpler? Yes.
Not only is Coffee Stain on the gallows, but Epic Games deserves a gentle kick in the ample posterior. Tim Sweeney’s company should make native controller support mandatory so that you don’t have to launch an external program (in this case, Steam) to get the game to work correctly if you don’t want to play with a mouse and keyboard. It is also fair to ask the developers why they couldn’t have solved the controller support problem, as Goat Simulator is not an RTS where it would be more convenient to control everything via keyboard and mouse. It’s a goat and a refutation of physics interwoven with a story.
Goat Simulator 3 is currently available for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, and PC on Epic Games Store (and there’s a good chance there won’t be a Steam release for a year…).
