Indie developer SeithCG has shared an image confirming that Ghost of a Tale 2 is in development.
The first screenshot of Ghost of a Tale 2, developed by SeithCG, has finally been posted online. Fans have long requested the sequel to the 2018 humorous stealth RPG. But the indie developer has never confirmed definitively that a sequel is in development. So far, only a couple of vague images have served more as teasers than confirmation.
Ghost of a Tale tells the story of Tilo, a little mouser who searches for his wife Merra after the pair are imprisoned and separated.
The game, which at first appears to be a cute little snippet, soon reveals itself to have an engaging story, fairly deep character development and an attractive graphical style. Originally released for PC, PS4 and Xbox One, it has generally received positive reviews. Ghost of a Tale was later ported to Nintendo Switch and Amazon Luna.
Developer SeithCG recently shared a screenshot from Ghost of a Tale 2 on Twitter, simply captioned, “Have you seen this mouse…?” The image shows a scene that resembles an area in the first game called Jail. Tilo’s wanted poster hangs on the wall next to familiar objects. In the comments, fans are already excited about the image and its hashtag, GhostOfATale2. Some have also noticed that the indie developer has switched from Unity to Unreal Engine 5.
Unfortunately, this is just the first screenshot, and SeithCG responded to a Twitter comment clarifying that they’ve only been working with Unreal Engine for eight months. They had to relearn everything. Add to that the fact that the development team is tiny, and expectations for a release date for Ghost of a Tale 2 should probably be kept low.
The first game was essentially developed by a one-person team, Lionel “Seith” Gallat, a film industry veteran who previously worked as an animator at Dreamworks and Universal Pictures.
After gaining valuable experience on titles such as Illumination Entertainment’s Despicable Me, Flushed Away, and The Lorax, Gallat moved into game development and raised funding for Ghost of a Tale through an Indiegogo crowdfunding campaign.
