The Last of Us 2’s Bella Ramsey mod is surprisingly impressive.
The Last of Us TV series is just around the corner. While it was essential to make it very similar to the original video game, there are some differences, especially in casting. Joel and Ellie, the main characters in the story, are played by Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey in the HBO Max series, while in the game, they are played by Troy Baker and Ashley Johnson.
But what if the cast were reversed? A mod video by Speclizer explores the idea, showing what Bella Ramsey would look like if she were in The Last of Us 2. So they’ve released some screenshots and even an atmospheric video, which you can find at the end of the article.
How did all this happen? Well, it turns out that Sony’s video games use a proprietary “face-rigging” system. Vontadeh, whose civil name is Alejandro Bielsa, who made the Bella model, seems to know this system quite well. He managed to transfer the faces of Kratos and Atreus from God of War into The Last of Us 2.
Motion capture technology is also becoming more prevalent in the industry thanks to games like The Last of Us and God of War.
Over the years, the creation of facial models has become much more complex. Games can now capture the complex emotions of the actors playing them.
And while it’s a leap forward for the industry as a whole, it also allows for the emergence of spectacular (and funny) community-made mods like this one.
The Last of Us TV series premieres this January 15 on HBO Max.

It is a bit of shame that some expressions don't hold together as much, but when it works she looks amazing, imho. I hope you like the video tomorrow! 😊https://t.co/maOEFDBJr6 pic.twitter.com/cgSXaBhSqJ
