Because of it, the seasonal content and the console version have been delayed, and Fatshark has done so in response to player feedback.
Warhammer 40K: Darktide has been available on PC since November 30 (Steam, Microsoft Store), and was scheduled to be followed “shortly after that” by an Xbox Series port. It will not happen, as the game’s developer Fatshark said on Twitter that they want to take the feedback from PC players seriously and would instead not release a crappy console port as the base game itself is problematic.
“We take enormous pride in our ability at Fatshark to deliver a game that millions can enjoy. We set out to do this with Warhammer 40,000: Darktide—to create a highly engaging and stable game with a level of depth that keeps you playing for weeks, not hours. We fell short of meeting those expectations. Over the next few months, our sole focus is to address the feedback that many of you have.
In particular, we will focus on delivering a complete crafting system and a more rewarding progression loop and continue to work on game stability and performance optimization. We will also delay our seasonal content rollout and the Xbox Series X|S launch. We will also suspend the upcoming releases of premium cosmetics. We couldn’t continue down this path, knowing that we have not addressed many feedback areas in the game today. Thank you for playing and providing feedback. We appreciate it. It has and will continue to help shape the game we love,” wrote Martin Wahlund, co-founder, and CEO of Fatshark.
The studio could have chosen to release Warhammer 40,000: Darktide in an incomplete form for Microsoft’s current-gen console. Still, since the feedback has not been overwhelmingly positive, they are reworking the game instead. True, it’s been out for almost two months now, but at least they’ve realized that they might need to rethink their plans because if the product is poor at launch, the subsequent reception will also be poor.
