Firmament: Release Date And System Requirements For Myst’s Team’s New Game [VIDEO]

Firmament is only coming to PC initially, but we’re seeing system requirements that are enough to make us fall off our chairs…

Let’s start with the system requirements:

Minimum system requirements:

  • Operating system: Windows 10 (no version number mentioned)
  • Processor: Intel Core i5 7th generation or AMD Ryzen 7 2700X (8 cores, “16 CPU”… presumably they meant 16 threads) at about 3.7 GHz or better
  • Memory: 16 GB RAM
  • Graphics card: Nvidia GeForce GTX 1070 (with 8 GB VRAM) or AMD Radeon RX 5700XT, or better
  • DirectX: DX11
  • Sound card: no information (N/A is written here, a bit strange…)
  • Free storage: 20 GB
  • VR support: SteamVR – Rift, Rift S, Quest 2 via Link, HTC Vive, Vive Pro, Index

Recommended system requirements:

  • Operating system: Windows 11 (no version number mentioned)
  • Processor: Intel Core i5 11th generation or AMD Ryzen 7 3800X (8 cores, “16 CPU”… 16 threads) at approx. 3.9 GHz or better
  • Memory: 32 GB RAM
  • Graphics card: Nvidia GeForce GTX 1080 Ti (with 12 GB VRAM) or AMD Radeon RX 6800XT, or better
  • DirectX: DX12
  • Sound card: no information
  • Free storage: 20 GB
  • VR support: SteamVR – Rift, Rift S, Quest 2 via Link, HTC Vive, Vive Pro, Index

So the optimization is… possibly awful if the CPU/GPU isn’t that demanding, but the game needs 16 or 32 GB of RAM. It can be played with or without VR, so Cyan had to compromise somewhere (Myst, Riven). Here is some info from the game’s Steam page: “Featuring a unique steampunk aesthetic, Firmament invites you to explore the legendary deep world-building Cyan Worlds is known for. Firmament is a fantastic visual feast, with thrilling new sights to see around every corner. At the same time, the world of Firmament feels entirely plausible, as though it were constructed with a bigger purpose in mind… A goal you will be compelled to discover as you play.

You carry a device called an “Adjunct” as you explore. This Adjunct is your interface as you interact with the various devices throughout the Realms of Firmament. Employing the Adjunct to solve the puzzles you encounter will bring you closer to unlocking this place’s secrets. You are not entirely alone in Firmament. In addition to The Adjunct, you are joined by a mysterious apparition who has a story of her own to share with you. As you explore, you will be introduced to three Realms with secrets and mysteries to reveal. What purpose do the Realms serve? Can the spirit who accompanies you be trusted?”

Firmament will be released on May 18 for PC and Mac (Steam). PlayStation 5, PlayStation VR2, and PlayStation 4 versions will be released later.
