The game, shown at PlayStation Showcase, resurfaced online with a developer diary.
During Sony’s coverage of the French publisher’s game, the reception wasn’t highly positive, with some questioning whether it will have the old-school feeling Assassin’s Creed that Ubisoft promised. Ubisoft Bordeaux and Ubisoft Montréal are working on the game, and the two studios are trying to bring back the feel of the original trilogy, so they have put a strong emphasis on the parkour that was much more prominent in the early games. The technology in Assassin’s Creed: Mirage builds on the previous installment, Assassin’s Creed: Valhalla, but Basim’s movement has been redesigned, as it’s faster and more agile, and the parkour feels more “fluid,” while new and old moves alike pop up.
“Many elements from past games are making a return. We have the corner swing, the ability to vault over objects, and elevators to reach the high ground quickly. New ingredients like the pole vault allow you to cross significant gaps between two rooftops. Of course, Basim is faster and more agile than Eivor. To give that feeling, we’ve reworked our animations to enforce the sense of speed when jumping, vaulting, and free-roaming.
[We’ve] reworked our enemy AI to improve detection and vanishing loops, making guard behaviors more responsive and readable. New enemy archetypes will also increase the stakes. The sharpshooter can shoot your eagle, the spearman pokes through haystacks, and the horn bearer can call reinforcements. That’s where your assassin skills come in handy. Social stealth makes a return. We’re bringing back the systemic blending with larger crowds that allow you to move undetected through the busiest locations. But you can also bribe factions with specific tokens to control AI groups and navigate guarded areas,” says Ubisoft.
Assassin’s Creed: Mirage will be released on October 12 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, PC (knowing Ubisoft, Epic Games Store, and Ubisoft Store, with Denuvo), PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Amazon Luna.
