Ubisoft and Massive Entertainment want this game to be as seamless as possible, a cohesive experience without any transitions.
On Twitter, Tom Henderson wrote that he thinks what he’s talking about might be completely unexpected, but he sees how the press is loving Insomniac Games and Sony Interactive Entertainment’s upcoming game for PlayStation 5 on Friday, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, for its fast travel and seamless nature, but it makes him wonder what the audience will ultimately think of what Ubisoft and Massive are going to put together with Star Wars: Outlaws.
He added that we’re finally seeing games that are fully capable of taking advantage of current-gen technology (i.e. not held back by the limitations of PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, as they’re not cross-gen products). He can’t say much more than that, though, as he wants to confirm his information so that he can provide more details about the next game from the studio that previously worked on The Division at a later date (perhaps when he sees a demo of the project).
We don’t know much about Star Wars: Outlaws yet, but Ubisoft and Massive have already announced that the planets will be huge. A planet will be about the size of two or three regions in Assassin’s Creed: Odyssey, so transportation and fast travel will be very important. We also want to give players complete freedom in how they defeat their opponents. A number of iconic locations (including Mos Eisley) will also appear in the game.
A release date for Star Wars: Outlaws has probably already been set in-house, but all we know officially is that it will be released sometime in 2024 for current-gen platforms, so we’ll see the new story of Disney’s IP on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series and PC.
