Capcom should definitely keep an eye on the DLC for Resident Evil 4 Remake (it was released in the autumn, so it’s still relatively new).
The Separate Ways DLC for Resident Evil 4 Remake has been in the news before, but it’s interesting from a different perspective: Not only did it flesh out Ada Wong’s storyline (not to mention Luis’ personality), but there are also hints of Resident Evil 5 at the end of the DLC, with Albert Wesker on his ship (which was the last location before the finale in the base game), and so we can rightly assume that the Japanese company’s next iteration of the franchise could be a fifth installment with more action-packed gameplay.
That game also had DLC, and this time Capcom has every reason to revisit it, but this time we’re thinking of the Lost in Nightmares DLC. Compared to the base game, this was more of a survival horror style, with Chris Redfield and Jill Valentine as the main characters. The two characters need no introduction, but Jill’s story originally had a gap of several years: the DLC ends with Jill sacrificing herself as Wesker is pulled from a window of the Spencer mansion into the abyss. (She is then captured by Wesker, experimented on and brainwashed into helping the sunglasses-wearing villain).
The DLC could then provide an insight into how Jill Valentine tried to resist Wesker’s control (after the P30 device was ripped from her chest, Jill admitted that she remembered everything, but against her will she couldn’t help herself, so she attacked Chris and Sheva). The older T-virus infection favoured Wesker, but we could also explore how Wesker’s experiments affected Jill in the longer term.
Jill’s “aftermath” hasn’t been seen yet, so this could be explored in a DLC for the Resident Evil 5 Remake, or even Resident Evil 9, if we’ve already heard that Ethan Winters’ story ended with Resident Evil (8): Village…
