Square Enix said goodbye to half a dozen games in the second half of last year, and still has a few days to make up for this year’s shortfall…
Square Enix and Aiming have announced the end of the international version of Dragon Quest Tact. Not the Japanese one, which launched on iOS and Android on July 16, 2020; we got the localized version on January 27, 2021, which will live a little over three years before it ends up in the figurative graveyard. The end date is 0:00 PST on February 29, 2024.
Square Enix and Aiming said in a statement: “Thank you for playing Dragon Quest Tact. We regret to inform you that we have made the difficult decision to discontinue the Dragon Quest Tact app service as of 0:00 PST on February 29, 2024. On behalf of the Dragon Quest Tact production team, we apologize for the abrupt announcement, but we are sincerely grateful for the support we’ve received from our players. Since the launch of Dragon Quest Tact on January 27th, 2021, we’ve been striving to provide our players with an incredible and enjoyable gaming experience every day, one day better than the day before. However, we’ve come to the conclusion that it would be difficult to continue to maintain the app experience, so we’re ending the app service.”
According to the timeline, the sale of gems was stopped at the same time as the announcement, but they can still be spent until the app is shut down. The sale of metal cards and passports has also been stopped. Automatic passport renewal has been stopped. And the in-game events will be constantly rotated before the shutdown, so they will run for the remaining two months.
Anyway, Dragon Quest Tact is typically one of those pay-to-win games, and it’s not worth talking about anymore. The only other reason it’s a familiar name is that it was also the subject of insider trading by Yuji Naka, who used to work at Sonic Team before moving to Square Enix, where he failed with Balan Wonderworld…
