The Team Behind Alien And Dishonored’s Tabletop RPG Brings Us Another IP!

Modiphius is already an established company when it comes to making tabletop RPG board game adaptations of well-known IPs.

They have adapted a lot of IPs. We’ve seen board games based on The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim or Homeworld, but in the desktop RPG space we’ve seen them do Tales from the Loop, Fallout, Alien, Blade Runner, or Dishonored. Their next adaptation will be based on Terry Pratchett’s Discworld stories. We will have to wait a little longer for that one.

This adaptation of the city of Ankh-Morpork and the whole Disc will be funded by the community first, and the Kickstarter campaign will be launched at the end of the year. This will make the Modiphius adaptation the second, since Pratchett’s fantasy IP was first made in 1998, courtesy of Steve Jackson Games. It was based on the GURPS (Generic Universal Role-Play System) rules. An encyclopedia of Discworld information and a collection of Paul Kidby’s art was a great book, but the comedic style of Discworld was not well suited to the more mathematical rules system.

Modiphius wants to know what fans think about turning Discworld into an RPG. They have also created a questionnaire that can be filled out, so that Modiphius can refine the concept based on fan feedback before the project goes to Kickstarter. This is a good approach: they are not in a hurry, so they can start the journey based on fan feedback and get more satisfaction from the backers.

Board games have had something of a renaissance in the 2010s, and the Modiphius remakes are proof of that. However, such a game has a much more unique style than a console or PC game. We have already seen several people succeed with their work, including former Eidos boss Ian Livingstone (Fighting Fantasy).

Still, she likes puzzle and story-oriented games, like Sherlock Holmes: Crimes & Punishments, which is her favourite title. She also played The Sims 3, but after accidentally killing a whole sim family, swore not to play it again. (For our office address, email and phone number check out our IMPRESSUM)
