TECH NEWS – A move that could save us time in certain situations with Google’s technology, which is natively available on two devices if you choose one of the newer models.

There’s also a feature in Google’s SGE (Search Generative Experience) that could be particularly useful for larger websites. The technology can summarize web pages in bullet points, so if it’s an article, you don’t have to read it, but can easily review its content. The feature is already available on Android from the cloud, but soon we’ll be able to use it natively on two devices locally!

Android Authority has reported that there’s evidence that Google may bring SGE to its own Pixel 8 devices, as well as the Samsung Galaxy S24 lineup. If your device has Gemini Nano installed at the factory, the feature will be available by default thanks to the mobile technology, and you won’t need to launch it from the cloud. However, there are only a few strings of code indicating this at the moment, so it could be a long time before Samsung and Google phones have the Gemini Nano web browser running “out of the box”.

There is a small hitch in the story. A significant number of mobile phones are not locally capable of running Gemini Nano and its features due to their weak SoC (system-on-a-chip). As a result, only a small percentage of current handsets are capable of the embedded technology, but as time goes on, mobile phones will become more powerful and more and more will be capable of the “factory” Gemini Nano. What’s certain is that Samsung and Google are working to ensure that the Galaxy S24 and Pixel 8 have the most built-in capabilities.

If the on-device AI on the two companies’ phones is successful, this approach will make a huge step towards the mainstream, and the iPhone 16 series coming this fall could play a big part in that.
