Although we are still several years away from the release of The Elder Scrolls VI, we are already hearing that the next game from Bethesda Game Studios (BGS) is already being tested in some form or another.
Previously, Pete Hines, who was Bethesda’s director of publishing at the time, told us that early development on The Elder Scrolls VI had begun, and we heard this from him just before the release of Starfield. More than half a year has passed since then, and once again Bethesda has spoken about the new installment of TES. The franchise just celebrated its 30th birthday with the release of The Elder Scrolls: Arena, or the very first episode for MS-DOS (Windows 95, which was still a bit far away, was based on DOS…) on March 25, 1994.
Bethesda took to Twitter to look back at the history of the franchise, including The Elder Scrolls Online, which turns ten this year. Meanwhile, it was said that the early versions of The Elder Scrolls VI, like the older episodes, fill the developers with joy, excitement, and the promise of adventure. These are what defined the franchise, and as a result, Todd Howard and BGS may be on the right track. In any case, the bottom line is that the next major installment of The Elder Scrolls is already playable in some form, despite being in early development.
The fact that it’s not a brand new IP (like Starfield) has helped BGS a lot. The studio has previously confirmed that creating an entire galaxy was problematic at first because of the many things they had to deal with (spaceship battles and spaceship traversal). These won’t be a problem in The Elder Scrolls VI, so the developers can hit the ground running. The game, which was announced at E3 2018, was mentioned at the time because Bethesda reassured the public that despite Fallout 76, they have no plans to abandon the development of single-player titles.
Rumor has it that The Elder Scrolls VI could be set in Hammerfell, with the Redguards taking the lead role…
