[SOP 2024] Astro Bot: A New Adventure for the Sony Robot [VIDEO]

Sony Interactive and Team Asobi have a new project on the way, and this time the studio’s next game will be bigger, better and more than the adventure that comes pre-loaded on PlayStation 5.

Team Asobi studio director Nicolas Doucet revealed more details on the PlayStation Blog. Since its debut at the launch of PlayStation 5, Astro has introduced many players to the magic of PlayStation. The developers received a lot of heartwarming comments about how much fun the game was, how it used DualSense in a fun way, and how it paid tribute to 25 years of PlayStation history. Astro is back in a super-sized space adventure, his biggest yet.

Explore 6 galaxies and over 80 levels in search of Astro’s scattered crew. Grab on to your Dual Speeder and dive into each unique planet, from lush forests, sandy beaches, and hot volcanoes to more surprising locations like a giant hourglass and the canopy of a singing tree! To help him on his mission, Astro can use over 15 new abilities that offer unique play styles. As you would expect from an Astro game, these take full advantage of DualSense, its haptic feedback and adaptive triggers, so you can feel every little step of your journey.

Among the many new powers are Barkster, the Bulldog Booster that lets you air-dash and smash through enemies, metal and glass; Twin-Frog Gloves that give you long-range punching and the ability to swing; and Giant Sponge, which lets you suck up water from the environment to grow huge and cause massive destruction. Combined with improved Astro controls, these new powers take the Astro platforming experience to new heights while remaining accessible to all.

They also increased the number of baddies with over 70 new types, including massive bosses at the end of each galaxy. Special mention goes to the deadly cobra queen Lady Venomara (seen in the video), who awaits you in her golden lair. Defeating each boss will unlock a wonderful secret. And for the brave among you who crave even more challenge, the game is packed with die-and-retry levels to test your reflexes.

What’s more, Astro will be reunited with many friends from the PlayStation universe during this epic adventure. The trailer shows just a few, but these characters could play an even bigger role in saving the day. At Team Asobi, we believe in making video games fun and enjoyable in every second. And with this new game, Astro Bot, they have poured all of our love and skill into bringing a constant smile to your face as you run, jump, punch enemies, and find the many secrets and jokes scattered throughout.

Astro Bot will be available for pre-order on June 6th and will be released on September 6th for PlayStation 5.
