A New The Legend of Zelda Game and Port Coming Soon?

For several years now, Nintendo has been holding back a few games from release, and one of them might be coming to the public in the near future, according to a well-known leaker.

For a couple of years now, we’ve been hearing that The Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker and The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess are both ready for Nintendo Switch ports, and they’ve been sitting in the drawer at the Big N for a long time. For both ports, audiences were hoping for an announcement in 2021, the 35th anniversary of the franchise, but in the end, Nintendo didn’t pull the wraps off the Switch ports. Jeff Grubb has repeatedly said that he’s looking forward to the release, and VGC editor-in-chief Andy Robinson has also said that these two games will make it to the platform that’s still selling in the millions.

On Twitter, Midori, who tends to leak information about SEGA and Atlus games (perhaps with much more accuracy than expected), wrote that Nintendo is currently working on a project called Edward, which may be related to rumors of a new installment in The Legend of Zelda franchise. Understandably, this led to the question of whether it was related to Twilight Princess. To which they replied, quite succinctly, that they didn’t know why Nintendo hadn’t released it. Midori did reveal that a previous Zelda project had a similar codename, as The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening Remake, which was created by Grezzo and released in 2019, was codenamed Richard within the Japanese company.

The Nintendo Switch’s successor is likely to be released in early 2025, and given that the Switch’s launch titles included The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild (which also came out on the Wii U), we wouldn’t be surprised if the new episode is also an opening title this time around. With the big N keeping the Switch alive with smaller projects this year, we wouldn’t be surprised to see a delayed Twilight Princess or Wind Waker port keep interest alive.

But it’s not official yet.
