With Arkane Austin shuttered, the studio won’t be able to deliver the DLC and content previously promised, so the Redmond-based tech giant will have to be fair to players who spent a lot of extra money on Redfall (which did get an offline mode).
The four-player co-op shooter is set on a fictional island, and features vampires and other mutants that must be exterminated.
Despite promising early performance, the game failed to deliver as it was not very polished and the gameplay was average at best. But with live service games, the audience does not have unlimited time and money, and what does not stand out will be ignored. This is what happened with Redfall.
With Redfall: Bite Back Edition, Microsoft has started to give some money back to gamers. The Windows Central report includes a screenshot of a player who received a $27 refund from Microsoft, as the DLCs planned for the game were free with this version of Redfall, so the purchased season passes and their associated content would have been financially harmful if Microsoft hadn’t returned their value, as the game will no longer receive further updates.
For those who purchased Redfall: Bite Back Edition, it’s worth checking your spam or trash folder in your email account for a refund, whether it’s for your Xbox or Steam account. Refunds are coming in waves, and according to Windows Central, there will be a refund for the retail version as well, as Bethesda’s customer support will make it happen if you request it, although it will definitely take some time.
Even though Redfall got the coveted 60 FPS graphics mode, it didn’t really generate much interest, which might be why Microsoft decided to start thinking about multiplatform releases (e.g. DOOM: The Dark Ages).
