Intel Processor Problems Anger Game Developers!

TECH NEWS – While the new generation of CPUs is coming soon (and it comes with a completely different naming scheme, so you’ll have to learn that too…), developers have had their hands full with Intel’s 13th and 14th generation processors.

Intel’s latest processors are not very stable, so developers have to warn gamers that their games or even their entire PCs could crash due to manufacturing defects (we won’t go into detail about what the problem is: faulty microcode, or for the 13th generation processors, oxidation). Alderon Games, the developers of Path of Titans (a dinosaur survival MMO), are using a special in-game error message to warn players using affected CPUs of potential problems.

The error message tells you that the game has crashed, identifies the processor type (pictured is an Intel Core i7-13700K), that the processor is having problems with modern Unreal Engine 5 games leading up to this, and if you click Yes, you will be informed of the problem. The i7 and i9 CPUs are affected, as well as the lower performance T models within them. A game or application will quit if the voltage jumps too high.

Path of Titans runs Unreal Engine 5.3, and the UE supervisor at ModelFarm has also said that the i9-13/14900K processors have a 50% failure rate, which is why developers are considering switching to AMD. Alderon Games has admitted that they are selling the affected CPUs because the failure rate has reached 100% in the last 3-4 months, which significantly reduces the lifespan of the processors. Even the developers of Warframe (Digital Extremes) and Epic Games, the creator of the Unreal Engine, have acknowledged the bug and offered a temporary solution to the problem.

In response, AMD is delaying its Ryzen 9000 processors a bit, but they’ve also admitted to finding bugs in the first batch of processors they’ve produced, so they’ll be a bit late… but let’s face it, for now, the “reds” are in a winning position!
