MOVIE NEWS – Anthony Mackie returns fire: he responded to Spider-Man’s Tom Holland with a “F*ck you”…
Anthony Mackie doesn’t let it go without saying that he will finally get an independent film in the MCU, and Tom Holland, who played Spider-Man, also found himself in the line of fire. Mackie first portrayed Sam Wilson/The Falcon a decade ago in Captain America: The Winter Soldier. He has since reprised the role numerous times in the MCU. After a moderately successful outing on Disney+ (alongside Sebastian Stan in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier), Wilson will finally be starring in a Marvel movie in Captain America: Brave New World, which hits theatres next year.
To add some much-needed context to Mackie’s recent comments, during the 2018 Ace Comic Con Seattle, Tom Holland responded with a cheerful joke that Mackie’s character is often seen as a supporting character in the franchise. After Mackie joked that he’d never seen Spider-Man: Homecoming, Holland memorably replied, “I haven’t seen the Falcon mov- Oh, wait. There isn’t one.”
It took six years, but Anthony Mackie can finally hit back at Holland’s offence.
Which he did now. With pleasure. In Marvel’s Hall H at San Diego Comic-Con (after Screen Rant), Mackie took a moment during the Captain America: Brave New World presentation to call out Tom Holland. When asked about Holland’s joke, Mackie jokingly replied:
“He said I didn’t have a movie. I said, ‘well you’re not 5’11”.’ I got a movie, but he ain’t gonna be 5’11”! Yes Tom Holland, f*ck you!”
Tom Holland partners with Anthony Mackie at the premiere of Captain America: Brave New World
Anthony Mackie apparently enjoys insulting his former co-star in their ongoing (friendly) feud but later offers an olive branch. Speaking to IGN following the Marvel H Hall presentation, Mackie revealed that she’s taking Tom Holland on a “date” to the Captain America: Brave New World premiere. Mackie said:
“I’m excited for Tom Holland to see my movie. He’s my date to the premiere. Zendaya, whatever you need to do, come with your friend or something, but he’s coming with me.”
In Captain America: Brave New World, Mackie’s Sam Wilson will finally take on the role of Captain America in a standalone film. Wilson was given the mantle in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier but refused to accept it, fearing he wouldn’t be able to live up to Steve Roger’s (Chris Evans) legacy. Now Wilson dons the suit and shield as he takes on the Serpent Society – who look a lot scarier than their name suggests.
Along with Mackie, his co-stars Tim Blake Nelson, Danny Ramirez, Harrison Ford and Giancarlo Esposito took the stage. The latter finally revealed who he is playing in his MCU outing. While the characters of the rest of the cast have already been revealed, Esposito’s character has remained a closely guarded secret. The actor even teased fans that no one correctly guessed who Esposito is playing in the film. Now Esposito has revealed that he will play Sidewinder, the leader of the Serpent Society. So far, little of Esposito’s character has been shown in the trailers. However, a few brief shots of the character reveal that he has traded in the reptilian costume for a tactical vest and a large arsenal of weapons.
